Morning laughter, as she shows me ice from a water barrel ...
In the Himalayan village where this cheerful woman lives, water is carried from glacial, mountain streams and stored near homes in barrels. Each morning, there's a layer of ice atop this water. She removes the ice with hands coated in soot from cooking on wood fires and we laugh together at my suggestion that the ice makes a wonderful frame for a photograph.
